LA STRUCTURE TECTONIQUE TRANSFRONTALIERE ENTRE LES BASSINS HOUILLERS DE VALENCIENNES (FRANCE) ET DU HAINAUT BELGE
Abstract
ABSTRACT. The extension in France of the structural units, known in Belgium as "massif de Masse" and "massif de Boussu", has already generated many different interpretations. The reconnaissance in Belgium of two superimposed tectonic styles, on both sides of the Masse fault, authorises, when transposed to the Valenciennes area, to detect the real nature of the "massif Barrois" as the lateral extension of the "massif de Masse". These massifs form part of a "grand massif superficiel", originally deposited on the Brabant Massif to the North, displaced by gravity sliding into the Haine depression, formed by dissolution of evaporites in the underlying Lower Carboniferous limestones.
