Abstract
Non-destructive analytical methods belonging both to « classic » (small instruments) and « laboratory » gemmology (larger, spectrometer-type instruments) are presented. Some indications of the circumstances under which such techniques should be used are discussed. An example of a detailed emerald report is given. Today’s most challenging questions are presented, especially in the light of new synthesis and especially new treatments.
